INTRODUCING

Galah

Galahs are charismatic and intelligent birds, and their adaptability has allowed them to thrive in a variety of environments. While they are common and not currently facing significant conservation threats, habitat preservation and responsible pet ownership are essential to ensuring their well-being in both natural and urban landscapes.

🦜 Call to attention — Loud, raucous calls that are easily recognizable in the wild.

🍃 Favorite snack — Primarily feeds on seeds, particularly grass seeds and nuts.

💖 Colorful feature — Distinctive pink and grey plumage that makes them stand out.

🌳 Social behavior — Highly social birds often seen in large, noisy flocks.

How you can help…

  • Plant native trees and shrubs that offer food and shelter for Galahs. Eucalyptus trees, in particular, provide essential habitat, as they are sources of nectar and seeds. A diverse garden can attract a range of native wildlife.

  • Create or install nesting boxes designed for Galahs in your garden or nearby trees. This can provide safe nesting sites, especially in areas where natural tree hollows are scarce, helping to support their breeding success.

  • Reduce or eliminate the use of pesticides and herbicides in your garden. These chemicals can harm Galahs and their food sources. Instead, use organic gardening methods to promote a healthy ecosystem that supports local bird populations.
